Roma-Bologna 1-0: Gasperini wins on debut, Wesley decisive

A goal from the Brazilian secures Roma’s first three points of the season at the Olimpico

Roma opened their Serie A campaign in the best possible way. In front of their home crowd at the Olimpico, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side defeated Bologna 1-0 thanks to a strike from Wesley, one of the club’s summer signings who immediately made his mark.

The Giallorossi started brightly, with Ferguson threatening on several occasions and Cristante denied by the post. Bologna had briefly taken the lead through Orsolini, but the goal was correctly ruled out for an offside against Immobile.

The decisive moment arrived in the 53rd minute: Cristante spread the play wide to Wesley, who capitalized on a fortunate deflection from Lucumi before slotting past Skorupski with a precise right-footed finish.

In the final stages, Gasperini brought on Dybala, who immediately forced a save and later delivered a golden chance for Dovbyk, only for the Ukrainian to waste it.

Bologna tried to respond through Castro, their liveliest player on the night, but failed to find the breakthrough. Roma and their new coach can smile: three points in the bag, and a promising start to the season.
