Como Mayor Rapinese opened today’s press conference by saying, “Sinigaglia must go on. Right now we are giving a very clear future to the city of Como, to our stadium that we love. As for what had been the political commitment, written in a clear way in the election campaign, for us the Sinigaglia stadium had to stay there because that is where it was born and that is where we want it to continue to live. I am infinitely and immensely grateful to Como 1907 for the support it is giving to the city. With the redevelopment of the stadium we are intervening in an important area of the city to make it even more beautiful and safe.”
Como 1907 President Mirwan Suwarso reiterated the club’s desire to share this new project with the whole city and people of Como: “We are very happy to be here today. Our club has chosen to come and work for Como and we have done our part; with the first step we have taken the team to Serie A and the next step is a new stadium that the people of Como can enjoy. What we see today is a proposal made by very important consulting firms sharing feedback from citizens. Today’s is the first proposal that we intend to share with the city in order to have in the end the best solution for the whole city of Como. The costs? It is too early to quantify them, they are still to be defined.”
“The technical proposal on the table is a combination of sports, social, environmental and urban planning needs while respecting the historical-environmental characteristics of the site that can transform the area into a usable gathering space for residents and the entire city. The stadium is rethought to become a vital public landmark for the neighborhood and harmonious to the landscape and urban context. It is a modern and efficient facility with an international scope and high environmental, energy and social sustainability requirements,” specified architect Silvia Prandelli.
Mayor Rapinese thinking about the future of the area stressed that,” Once the work is finished and we find the right technical solutions I would like the area to become pedestrian friendly. This only however having more parking spaces available, we will talk about this later in time but this is a great opportunity for the city and it is my personal dream. You know that in the first point of my program there are parking spaces and in the twentieth there is the stadium, so absolutely I think that, being able to free up the area and guaranteeing to have other spaces, that would be great.”
The start of the project authorization process consists of the submission of the Docfap, a feasibility document of project alternatives, which has “the purpose of identifying the best solution for both the environment and the community in terms of costs and benefits, in relation to the specific needs to be met and the benefits to be provided.” All other steps in the bureaucratic process will follow.
