Federico Coppitelli was Dorgu’s first coach in Lecce. From the very first training sessions, the Roman coach understood the great qualities of the Dane: “I was sure he would make a special path. Among his characteristics is that he always feels comfortable every time he makes a next step in his career, so I would say well. Also, he has great physicality.”
Coppitelli recounts his acquaintance with Dorgu, later revealing the background of his choice: “The first time I saw him in the Calabria retreat, at the first training session, I immediately said that he was a different player from the others. I had made a comparison with Singo whom I had coached in Turin, saying that they were two similar players. The discovery? It was good scouting chief Fabio Piluso who caught him in a Denmark Under 18 match: in that match he was the only player without a contract who could be easily signed, in the stands there were scouts from many important teams but no one but ours had sensed such important potential. Perhaps because for the role he plays he is not a particularly eye-stealing player, but all the more reason Lecce did well to believe in him.”
Dorgu’s shy character is revealed by the trainer with an anecdote related to the victory of the Primavera championship, when Lecce won the third Scudetto in Reggio Emilia by overcoming Fiorentina. Coppitelli reveals, “I’ll tell you this one: during the celebrations everyone was ecstatic about winning the championship, he I’m not saying he wasn’t happy but he reacted much more calmly than his teammates. I was impressed by a goal against Cesena: he started from midfield dribbling all the opponents.”
