Runjaic: “I demand a reaction from the team.”

League eve for Kosta Runjaic’s Udinese. Tomorrow afternoon, Venezia led by Eusebio Di Francesco arrives at the Bluenergy Stadium. At the press conference, the coach of the bianconeri presented the match against the Lagunari…

His words.

HOW THE BIANCONERI ARRIVE TO THE CHALLENGE AGAINST VENICE. “We are working hard every day, we want a team that gives everything from the first minute and that’s what I didn’t see in the match against Roma. We started solidly, but not with fire inside, which is a key factor especially when playing at home. We have to put ourselves in the right conditions to win the game against Venezia with the mentality and will from the opening whistle. We have the qualities to win tomorrow. The Lagunari are a very dangerous team. The first leg match is a warning for all of us, we have to keep cohesion. Touré’s injury unfortunately happens. Tomorrow there will be no Karlstrom who is one of the leaders of this group. Jesper has always given a good performance and it is to be expected that he could have been missed and someone will have to replace him. We have to take responsibility. If we are not focused from the first minute tomorrow it becomes a very dangerous challenge.”

WILL THERE BE A TRIDENT IN THE ATTACK? “The most important element for tomorrow afternoon’s match is concentration, the trident does not depend on three- or four-man defense. It will serve to defend all united.”

WHO WILL PLAY ON THE LEFT SIDE? ZEMURA OR KAMARA? “We analyzed Venice, they have a great mentality and have good potential. I don’t want to talk too much about individuals, but above all the approach to the match will count.”

WHY IS THE TEAM STRUGGLING SO MUCH? “We are in a process of growth, the challenge against Atalanta represents the performance we want to deliver. To show such a performance, however, you need quality and that means with mentality and the ability to adapt to different game situations. We have had good performances and some not so good ones. There are many factors that affect and we are working on them. We have to remember what soccer is based on and if there are variations to improve. This is my bread and butter. There are teams that through individual talent can handle situations well, such as Milan, for example, which has 2 to 3 players who can solve the game for you by themselves. We don’t have them and we don’t have their means however we have people with quality to at least provide good performances. The standings give us the vision of a team and the trend is not positive. We have a point average that has settled back to what it was last year. We still need to improve in many aspects, not only on the field. After two consecutive defeats we need to show a reaction.”

THE POINT ON THE INJURED SITUATION. “I think Giannetti and Davis will join the team starting next week while Zarraga is training with the group. He will be on the bench tomorrow, but he obviously does not have 90 minutes in his legs yet. Palma, on the other hand, still needs time, but he is on the road to recovery.”

WHY THIS FEAR IN PLAYING ‘THE HEAVY ATTACK’? “Results are one thing, statistics another. We scored more points with the 3-4-2-1, but that doesn’t mean anything. We won with Como thanks to a missed penalty and with Lazio without having control of ball possession. I invite you to watch the training sessions so that I can give you my view of things. It’s easy to say that we picked up more points with a certain form, but it doesn’t work that way in soccer. We were very happy, but we did not rest on our laurels. It was a very good start but these 10 points are not everything. In my opinion it doesn’t have to do with the system of play, but on how we all work together and how we react to different game situations. Sometimes we go overboard in analyzing data or talking about modules, the most important factor is who takes the field. You can play with or without Sanchez, with or without a trident, but then different factors come into play. We have to focus only on tomorrow and I demand a reaction from the team.”

IS SAVA DOING SPECIAL TRAINING TO SAVE PENALTIES? “No, we haven’t done any special training. There is also a little too much talk about this aspect.”
