Bernabé and the backstory on Buffon: “I didn’t answer him to a message…”

During his lengthy interview with Calling Yourself Bomber, talented Gialloblu soccer player Adrian Bernabé shared an anecdote about Gigi Buffon, the former extreme defender who made Parma history. These are his words:

“After I arrived, I had an injury (a minor heart surgery for which he was out for 6 months and returned in February 2022), and I was without a cell phone for 3 or 4 days because I was in the hospital and couldn’t make it. Of course, when my mom brought my phone back, I had received so many messages and was trying to answer them all. I saw that I had gotten one from an Italian number and I thought ‘I don’t even know who he is, he doesn’t even have a profile picture, I’m not answering’ and it said ‘We are waiting for you here in Parma.’ I had not responded, then after a while I saw this message again and tried to add the contact. I saw Buffon’s profile picture and thought ‘Oh my God, Gigi Buffon had sent me a message and I didn’t realize.’ I really didn’t know it was his contact.

In my opinion he and Iker Casillas were the two strongest goalkeepers in history. Gigi is a very normal person, very simple, nice, with whom you can go for coffee or go out to dinner. The thing that amazed us all was that he was 45 years old and he was the one who trained with the most intensity. He was the first one on the field, he went to the gym every day-he was an example for all of us and we learned a lot from him.”
