Kristensen: “We haven’t lost conviction compared to the beginning of the season. Now we have to stick together.”

Last night, Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen was a guest on the Udinese Tonight broadcast on TV12.

Kristensen’s words.

ON THE DEFEAT AGAINST ROME. “Against Roma we did not pick up any points, but we once again played a game in which we saw good things. In the first half we were focused and well positioned in defense, however, I think we need to create more offensive opportunities by scoring more goals. We have not lost conviction compared to the beginning of the season, it is normal in soccer to have more positive or more negative periods. Now we are going through a difficult time, but we have to stick together, keep our heads down and keep pedaling. It would be a shame to waste what we have done so far, but after a start like ours it is normal that expectations are high. The most important thing now is to score points, we have to keep working hard to get back to results.”

ON HIS ARRIVAL AT UDINE LAST SEASON. “I was proud to come here to Udine, I knew it was a good place to play soccer. Ever since I was little I’ve been following Serie A, it was an important step for me as a soccer player. I grew up a lot here. Before coming to Italy I knew that Italian soccer was very difficult, that it asks a lot, especially from defenders.”

TIME HAS COME TO EARN A STARTING SPOT. “The coach asks me first of all to defend well, then he wants me to go decisive in duels and play the ball with great courage.”

JORGENSEN HELPED HIM ENJOY UDINE. “Last year Martin Jorgensen came to Udine and took me for pizza. He advised me to experience the city more. He coached me when I was younger and when I came here he helped me so much to settle in. Udine is a little smaller than my city, Aarhus, but they are similar. I played in Aarhus since I was 10 years old, then in 2020 I made it to the first team.”

ON THE KRISTENSEN FAMILY. “I have a brother, Kasper, who is also a soccer player: he plays in the Danish second division. He is older than me in age, but he is smaller in height, which is what counts (laughs, ed.). My dad is very nice. He doesn’t know much about soccer, but in my career he helped me a lot, especially off the field. My mom was sad to see me leave Aarhus, three to four times a year she comes to visit me in Udine.”

HIS DREAM. “My dream is to play in England, but now I want to continue playing with Udinese. I am happy to be here, I like this club and I can still learn a lot with this jersey.”

ON THE HCL FANS. “I am very happy with the support of our fans, I like playing at home. Even on the road, a lot of people always follow us.”
