Tutti i motivi che hanno portato i tifosi granata a contestare Davide Vagnati a Superga: dai tanti mercati falliti alle sue dichiarazioni
Like every year, May 4 Granata was a success. For the march, which united fans from all over Italy; for the commemorations; and for the affection reserved for members of the roster. Not to all, however, because while Cairo absented himself to avoid any environmental issues, in his place was “targeted” Davide Vagnati, certainly among the most contested on the hill. But what are the reasons for the contestation against him? From flops on the market to statements that often belittled the club, fans do not forgive him for many things.
I flop sul mercato
Main reason is, of course, the market operations during the various sessions. Arriving in 2020, the technical director has gone through more blunders than great insights. There are so many flops that can be recalled: from Gojak – who was also given the number 10 jersey – to Kabic, via Haveri, Bayeye, Warming and Seck and others. Not to mention the purchases of this last season that are not convincing at all, such as Coco or Pedersen (taken respectively after the departures of players like Buongiorno and Bellanova). Not only purchases, however, because together with President Cairo, Vagnati has also often made himself the protagonist of the disposals of many big, often also devalued, players.
La “Spallizzazione” della società
Having mentioned Seck, the thought cannot but go to the all too close relationship with Spal, his former team. Over the years Vagnati has contributed to a real “Spallization” of Torino on several levels (from the first team to the youth sector), bringing with him from Ferrara managers and players who then, however, did not perform at all well. Executive side some examples are Cottafava, Dr. Minafra and many others, while if we talk about players besides the already mentioned Seck also Horvath or Kryeziu come to mind. All people who failed to make an impact at all.
Le dichiarazioni controverse
Dulcis in fundo, fueling the complicated relationship between the fans and Vagnati were also his less-than-excellent skills in front of the cameras and microphones. There are many episodes that have seen him go off the deep end during interviews: false promises of keeping players sold shortly afterwards in the squad (such as Bellanova), erroneous comparisons between players, and the very latest statements that saw him belittle Torino on Adams (“I took him saying that a step in Italy can do him good to then eventually return to the big European stages, or in Italy but in important clubs”) and on Milinkovic-Ricci (“Market rumors about them make one happy”). That between the dt and the Granata fans has always been a story with many lows and very few highs, and even at Superga it was demonstrated: it is difficult for anything to change in the immediate future.
