Napoli, double hoax coming: Man United ‘retaliates’ this way for Garnacho

This January market is in danger of turning into quite an embarkation for Napoli, which is cashing in on rudeness virtually everywhere

That Napoli’s winter market would be complicated was understood from the start. But what has been going on in recent weeks seems almost like a football thriller, with twists and turns around every corner.

After the sale of Kvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain, the blue club found itself in the difficult position of having to find a suitable replacement. The most popular name? Alejandro Garnacho, Manchester United’s 2004-born jewel who had already made Neapolitan fans dream.

Negotiations with the Red Devils, however, turned out to be an odyssey. Long, exhausting, and apparently without a happy ending. Aurelio De Laurentiis, known not to give in easily, has tried to impose his terms, on the strength of the fact that United is not sailing in very good financial waters.

But things did not go as hoped. And here comes the first low blow: while Napoli was trying to close the deal, Chelsea popped up, which with its usual economic might is closing the deal for the amount demanded by the Red Devils.

An offer that seems to have convinced Manchester, leaving Napoli with few options on the table and the bitterness of seeing a talent that seemed to be taken and would have made a difference in Antonio Conte’s squad fade away. But the real cold shower comes with the second mockery, directly related to the first.

Patrick Dorgu: da promessa azzurra a possibile rivale

Manchester United, fresh with cash thanks to a likely deal with Chelsea, immediately set out to look for a replacement for Garnacho. And the choice fell on Patrick Dorgu, a Lecce full-back, class of 2004, whom Napoli had practically locked in for next season for several months.

It seemed like a deal already written: Dorgu would arrive in the Azzurri as part of a long-term project. But Manchester, with its compelling arguments (read millions of pounds), is in danger of snatching this key piece from Napoli as well.

The result? A double hoax. Because Napoli not only stands to lose Garnacho, but also sees one of its most interesting future prospects headed to England.

At this point, De Laurentiis and Giuntoli are trying to run for cover. There are other names on the table: one above all, Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, who would cost a blue figure but at least would be a footballer of the level Antonio Conte required. And then there are the “Italian” solutions, such as Ndoye, whose profile has been back in the news in the last few hours.

Then there is the option of Zaccagni, an external player owned by Lazio, which, however, represents an extremely complex deal. Lotito, it is known, is not the type to give discounts, and the financial demands are likely to be another insurmountable obstacle. The fans, meanwhile, are buzzing. After a complicated year and the arrival of Antonio Conte to set a new course, expectations were high. But this market session, at least for now, is testing the fans’ patience.
