Ghisolfi pushes for Farioli, Ranieri points to Pioli and Fabregas: now he chooses Dan

Roma is accelerating on the coaching front, and a first shortlist has already arrived on Friedkin’s table: four names, three of them well-known, with one last profile still top secret. Composing it, Il Messaggero writes today, were Claudio Ranieri and Florent Ghisolfi, each with their own preferences.

The strong name for the new ds is Francesco Farioli, a young Italian coach who bewitched Ligue 1 with Nice, proposing an offensive, modern, dribble-focused soccer, and who is proving himself at Ajax. De Zerbi’s former collaborator is the prototype of the managerial coach dear to Ghisolfi: young, methodical, very attentive to the building phase from the bottom, a lover of high pressing and ball possession. A choice that would look to the future with courage and ambition.

Instead, the other two names bear the signature of Ranieri, who wanted to include in the shortlist Stefano Pioli, an experienced technician accustomed to managing large locker rooms and hot squares, and Cesc Fabregas, a fascinating suggestion who combines charisma, international mentality and a playing idea still being defined but who has already shown interesting insights in his first experience at Como. Pioli would guarantee experience and reliability, while Fabregas would represent a Xabi Alonso-style gamble, a leap into the future with the label of an outfielder.

The fourth name, however, still remains shrouded in mystery. All that is known is that it has probably been proposed by Ranieri, but no rumors have been leaked on his profile at the moment. An Italian coach? A resounding comeback? Or a foreign outsider? The answer may come soon, as the Friedkins intend to close the circle before the end of the season.
