A well-known face in Rossoneri history passed away earlier today-his period was not one of the happiest for the club.

In February 1986, the purchase of Milan by Fininvest, then led by Silvio Berlusconi, became official. It was a historic moment for the club, which went on to win a whopping twenty-nine trophies thanks to the new ownership. The previous owner was Giuseppe Farina, an entrepreneur from Veneto who had bought the shares in January 1982 after previously serving as president of Padova and Venezia.
The Rossoneri ended up in Serie B for the second time in their history, and in the following season they immediately regained promotion to Serie A, from which they never relegated again. Despite some investments made on the soccer market, the following seasons were not particularly exciting; no trophy came.
In January 1986 Farina resigned as president, given the difficult financial situation in which the Diavolo was navigating due to some bad choices. Rosario Lo Verde was appointed in his place, then Fininvest arrived to save everything by clearing debts and avoiding a possible bankruptcy.
Giuseppe Farina morto: addio all’ex presidente del Milan
Just today came the news of the death of Farina, who was 91 years old at the time of his death. He would have turned 92 in July. Milan via its social channels posted its own message of condolence: “He was the president of Milan in the early 1980s, an adventure undertaken with courage and enthusiasm. With a deep sense of respect and participation in the mourning, the whole club remembers the figure of Giuseppe Farina and joins in the emotion of all his family members.”

Farina during his lifetime was in charge of as many as twelve different teams: Padova, Vicenza, Milan, Audace, Valdagno, Legnago, Schio, Rovigo, Belluno, Rovereto, Modena, and Palù. At Vicenza he became president in 1968, and in 19776 came a certain Paolo Rossi, who later became a legend of Italian soccer. The Veneto team achieved a historic second place in the 1977-1978 Serie A championship. In the summer of 1978 there was a tug-of-war between Vicenza and Juventus to settle Pablito’s co-ownership; it came down to envelopes and Farina got the better of it by offering the insane amount (for those times) of 2.612 billion liras. To finance that operation and fix a budget inevitably ruined by that investment, the Veneto entrepreneur invented two-year season tickets.
Farina in 1985 brought Rossi to Milan, where he wore the number 10 shirt and scored only 2 goals, both in the derby drawn 2-2 against Inter on December 1, 1985. The following year he was included in the deal that brought Giuseppe Galderisi to Milan and ended his career at Hellas Verona. There was a good relationship between the two. As we know Pablito unfortunately died in December 2020. Giussy, as Farina was nicknamed, joins him today. We also express our condolences to his family members.
