Accadde oggi, 22 aprile
LAZIO – April 22, 2009. After a month’s break, the return leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal is staged: they restart from the 2-1 win for Lazio, accrued in the first act played at the Stadio Olimpico, and Delio Rossi’s band conquers the final by returning from Turin with the same result.
Match, and qualification, never really in question, thanks to a slow and predictable Juve, easily kept, by the Biancocelesti midfielders, particularly far from their own goal defended by Muslera. At the rest, we go with the host advantage, thanks to an overflowing descent by Kolarov and an impeccable shot on the turn by Zarate, now at 14 goals on the season, that leaves Buffon no chance.
In the second half, Ranieri tried desperation moves, inserting Nedved, Camoranesi, and Del Piero. The former would pose some danger, the latter would lose his head by getting himself sent off, and the third would score the flagship goal in the final, after Kolarov, still him, still unstoppable, had already put the final in the bag with a bolide of his own, slightly deflected by Grygera.
HISTORY – April 22, 1909. A day of geniuses and Italian pride: in fact, Rita Levi-Montalcini, 1986 Noble Prize for Medicine and senator for life, and Indro Montanelli, the noble father of Italian journalism, are born, one in Turin and the other in Fucecchio, in the province of Florence.
SPORT – April 22, 1970. Andrea Giani, a volleyball player fully included in the generation of Italian phenoms who dominated in Europe and the world in the 1990s, was born in Naples. He wore the jerseys of Parma and Modena and 474 times (still a record) that of our national team, winning 22 titles with clubs (including five Scudetti and two Champions Leagues) and three World golds, four European Championships (plus one silver and one bronze) and two silvers and one Olympic bronze with the Azzurri.
