A wingman for Dovbyk: Ghisolfi hunting for attack reinforcement

LATEST NEWS FROM AS ROMA – Dovbyk is not enough. Ranieri understood this, Friedkin knew it, and Florent Ghisolfi also made it clear. The Ukrainian, who arrived to be the new Roma’s offensive pivot, has often had to do the job alone. And in the toughest matches, the lack of a real wingman was felt.

Shomurodov, relaunched by Ranieri, has done his thing, but he remains a second forward. That’s why, regardless of who the new coach will be, work is under way in Trigoria to bring in another first forward, a striker capable of giving Dovbyk breathing room or flanking him to change the face of the team in the running game.

Much, of course, will depend on the choice of the next coach. If they will go for a two-pronged system, they will need a player capable of attacking depth and playing behind the goal. If, on the other hand, they will turn to the 4-2-3-1, they will be looking for a striker ready to relieve the starting number 9, providing physicality and a sense of goal.

The names circulated in recent weeks all point in the direction of a young, futuristic profile, but already ready to move up the ladder. Such as Lorenzo Lucca, Udinese’s center forward, who has shown important margins of growth after his experience at Ajax: the physique of a cuirassier, but also good feet and an identity to be built. Or Nikola Krstovic, a Montenegrin in force at Lecce, author of a positive season and with qualities of a modern striker: mobile, aggressive, and with relatively affordable costs.

Then there is Brian Brobbey, a center forward for Ajax and a personal friend of Francesco Farioli, a n more structured profile, with European experience and characteristics compatible with the vertical soccer that they are trying to set up. He had also been sought by Ghisolfi, who is very attentive to the Dutch market, last January.

Alternative solutions cannot be ruled out either, such as El Bilal Touré, currently on loan to Stuttgart from Atalanta after a disappointing season but with potential still intact, or young Petar Ratkov from Salzburg, a Serbian center forward born in 2003 who is physically strong and can adapt to multiple modules.

The direction is clear: we need more offensive solutions, more chances not to hang on one man’s goals. Roma wants to grow, and to do that it also needs a deeper bench, especially up front.
