MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM

AS ROMA NEWS – Roma does not stop anymore. And, albeit with difficulty, it also crushes Verona, beaten last night at the Olimpico by one to zero. The match was decided by Shomurodov’s goal after just four minutes of play: Cristante’s throw for Soulè, great control and dribbling by the Argentine, who with his left footed shot towards the Verona goal and served an assist to Eldor, who was quick to throw it in, anticipating two opposing defenders.

The Giallorossi’s immediate goal foreshadowed a game quite different from what it would be: after the initial flare-up, the match died down. Verona does not change its tactical theme despite the disadvantage: Zanetti asks his men to stay compact behind the line of the ball to prevent Roma from hitting in the spaces, and try to hurt with restarts by Mosquera and Sarr. The Giallorossi continue to play the game, but they play under pace and with little brilliance.

What emerges is a boring match, with very few emotions. Roma confirms its Dybala addiction: Angelino at the end of the match will take a perfect picture of how the Argentine’s absence weighs on his performance as well as that of the team (“He takes 3-4 players away from us, and I have more space to sink”). The Giallorossi are also paying on a more mental than physical level for the run-up made in these 4 months, where Ranieri has worked miracles: with yesterday’s victory, the team scores its 17th consecutive useful result, a record achieved years ago by Spalletti.

Some key players seem to be going through a period of poor form: in addition to Angelino, sharply declining Saelemaekers, who used to turn every ball he touched into gold, and Konè, a far cry from what he was at the beginning of the season. And the new signings? Their contribution has been minimal: apart from Rensch, penalized by injury, for the others the field remains a mirage.

Now comes a new string of direct clashes that will accompany us to the end of the season: Inter, Fiorentina, Atalanta, Milan and Torino. On paper, Champions hope is still mathematically possible, but Ranieri’s cautious and hyper-realistic line is absolutely shareable: given Roma’s current form, a real miracle is needed to finish in the top four.
