Duvan Zapata is Torino. The Granata captain has extended his contract with Toro until 2027. The signature on the document counts as a promise of love. After 2 seasons, one of which was spent in the pits due to injury, Zapata reiterated his desire to stay under the Mole and continue chasing the dream called Europe.
Duvan’s decision is not a foregone conclusion. In the spring of 2024, several rumors claimed that Cruz Azul, a Mexican club, was seriously interested in bringing the striker to Central America. The club had put a significant amount of money on the table, but the Granata captain’s response was polite and direct: “No thanks, I want to play for Torino.”
“Sono grato al Toro”
It was May 18, 2024, and Toro, in front of their home crowd, beat AC Milan 3-1. Goals by Zapata, Ilic and Ricardo Rodriguez propelled the granata towards a place in Europe. A year later, Zapata is forced to deal with another lengthy injury. The Colombian had to raise the white flag early in the season due to a ruptured cruciate ligament. The icing has finally been put on the cake. Toro has announced the contract renewal of Duvan Zapata until 2027. “Forward together”: this is the motto of the club and the player. The captain has decided to stay at granata to return to the magical nights in Europe that Duvan savored with Napoli and Atalanta.
