Romano: “I fell in love with Roma right away. Xhaka my idol, I want to be a leader like him.”

AS ROMA NEWS – Alessandro Romano was featured in the latest episode of Dreaming Roma, a column in which the Giallorossi’s Primavera talents tell their stories. The Swiss midfielder, fresh from his renewal with the capital club, talked about his early years in the Giallorossi. His words.

You have Roma in your last name, it was meant to be… “It seems so, even in Switzerland they made the same joke. Let’s see where the future takes us.”

You were also born on June 17… “Roma won the third Scudetto, actually I didn’t know that before. My cousin’s husband is a real Roma fan and he told me about it. In 2006 Italy also won the World Cup, and on June 17 my parents got married.”

The negotiation that brought you to Roma? “I always played at Winterthur, then two years at Grasshopper. Roma saw me play in the national team against Italy, then they came to watch a game at Winterthur. Two days later we had a video call, we got to know each other a little bit, they explained Roma, Trigoria, the project. Then we came here and I immediately fell in love with Roma, signed and started this adventure.”

First year immediately Scudetto, did you expect it? “I came here to grow and improve. I always want to win, winning the Scudetto was beautiful.”

You want to win even in the little game-“Yes, I get nervous right away if I lose.”

You scored in your Primavera debut and derby… “I thank the coach for that time. I started with the U18 and then went up to Primavera. Nice to score on debut, the derby beautiful.”

Better an assist or a goal? “As a midfielder it’s hard to say, but maybe assist. The important thing is to help the team.”

Why do you show your muscles when you cheer? “The biceps is between me and mom, she is the most important person in my life and she gives me so much strength, so much love. It is for her.”

What is your relationship with the family? “At first it was hard, I was here alone. I always lived with them and we suffered a lot. We talk every day, now we are fine.”

How was the adjustment to Rome? “Switzerland is very quiet. In Rome I spend my time in the boarding school. When my parents come we visit the city, which is beautiful. In Trigoria the boys have welcomed me very well.”

Did you learn Italian here in Rome? “Yes, my grandparents are Italian but I spoke very little. I learned a lot here.”

Is there a language you would like to speak? “Spanish, it conveys cheerfulness to me.”

What is your relationship with Italy? “Every summer I go on vacation to Puglia.”

Have you ever thought about the Italian national team? “Yes, I’ve thought about it, I’ve even talked about it, but at the moment it’s not my priority. In the future, you never know.”

Do you call yourself a director technically? “Yes, I like to have the ball and decide the pace of the game.”

Low summit in the 4-3-3 or one of the two midfielders in the 4-2-3-1? “It changes. In the 4-3-3 I don’t have as much freedom, I have to be more defensive. With two midfielders I have more freedom and can exploit other characteristics.”

Do you like shooting from outside the box? “A lot, I know I have it and I try. All four goals I’ve scored have been from outside.”

If there is a punishment from the center-right? “If I can take it, but there are other players as well.”

Where do you need to improve? “I need to improve in all aspects, perhaps the defensive phase is fundamental for a halfback.”

There are great midfielders in the first team. A reference point of yours? “I steal left and right, they are all strong. The player I take inspiration from is Paredes, I learn a lot from training with him or watching him from home.”

A Swiss idol of yours? “I liked Inler a lot. Now there’s Xhaka. We play the same position, we are both left-handed. I am inspired by his personality, he is a leader.”

Have you had a chance to get to know them? “Unfortunately not yet, maybe in a few years we will play together in the national team.”

Are you very ambitious? “Yes, I always want to improve. Until I reach my destiny, I’m always working.”

In the future do you see yourself more as a leader in terms of behavior? “Yes, but also with words. On the field, I try to speak more.”

What do you like to do in your spare time? “I like to spend time with my family, listen to music, occasionally read a little.”

Italian music? “Sfera Ebbasta, Tony Effe. Then also Roma songs to learn the anthems.”

What is your relationship with social media? “If I put anything up, it’s always about soccer.”

In January, the first summons to the first team. Did you expect it? “No, it was an indescribable emotion, hard to put into words. A dream.”

Do you feel the debut is close? “I hope so, but already being summoned was a lot. Now it’s up to me.”

Renewal a starting point… “Yes, a nice achievement but now I have to keep working. The debut will come.”

What are your expectations? “To win titles and become a great player. To be an example for the next young people.”
