A Thiago Motta version of a river in flood spoke to Corriere della Sera today, revealing incredible backstories about his experience at Juventus, which ended about two weeks ago. The coach was exonerated after poor results against Empoli, Atalanta and Fiorentina and made way for Igor Tudor.
The Bianconeri were in the running for fourth place, as they are now, but something was broken with the former midfielder. Among the topics covered in the lengthy interview with Walter Veltroni, Thiago Motta also dwelt at length on the rumors about him off the field. For a long time, in fact, it was said that the coach had a bad relationship with the players and that, before his exoneration, he allegedly quarreled heavily with sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.

On these very issues, Motta, was particularly annoyed and denied:
“These are the things that bother me, because they can criticize me as a coach for my choices, and that of course I accept. But anyone who says that I had the locker room against me is a liar.
These things are unacceptable, not true. Never has anyone I have worked with, in my career, publicly said they had problems with me. At Juve I had a very good relationship with all my players from a professional and human point of view. A relationship based on respect, on clarity. Then it is normal that those who play less can be less happy.”
On the relationship with Giuntoli, who reportedly said he was ashamed to choose him as a coach, he added:
“No. I never had the conversation that was written about, never. And I never had an argument with the director, never. We talked about how to improve the team, as always, and we did it with clarity and honesty, even with different opinions, as we always do. It is precisely these lies that I do not intend to let pass.”
So, again, Motta chose the path of denial, dismissing these rumors related to alleged quarrels and misunderstandings. The working relationship with Juventus, however, has nevertheless ended. The coach, now, will have to start again by looking for other ways, perhaps even outside Italy, to rebuild the image of the winning coach he had achieved in Bologna.
