Costacurta: “In Bologna there is something special. Castro? I would stay another year.”

Former A.C. Milan defender Alessandro ‘Billy’ Costacurta has commented on Vincenzo Italiano’s Bologna, which so far is having a season of the highest level. There was no shortage of compliments towards the Rossoblù coach, although the key to the Felsinei’s year is another according to the Sky Sport pundit.

BOLOGNA SEASON. “I didn’t imagine it doing so well. I think there was an important foundation after last season to say that Bologna had now entered a higher bracket. I never thought it could replicate these results, though. The most surprising thing is the quality of the game: something not taken for granted when you lose people like Calafiori, Zirkzee and Saelemaekers.”

MERITS OF ITALIAN. “I love him, I have been following him since he coached at Trapani. With Vincenzo there has always been mutual esteem, even as opponents. So, I don’t want to underestimate his work. But I think that in Bologna there is something special between the city and the team. In addition to the excellent work of the managers: I hope Bologna becomes a source of inspiration for others.”

CASTRO. “He is strong, but at his age staying another year in the red and blue would only do him good. He would then go and bench Lautaro Martinez and Thuram. I think Bologna is perfect now to become great: it applies to him, as it does to Ndoye, Odgaard and the Italian himself.”
