Igor Paixao is back in Atalanta’s sights. The name of the Brazilian offensive outfielder, on loan from Feyenoord, is starting to circulate again with insistence in Zingonia, fueling rumors of a possible assault in the next market session. The Bergamo club had already expressed interest last summer, but now, with the future of Ademola Lookman increasingly in the balance, the profile of the class of 2000 is back in the news in a big way.
As L’Eco di Bergamo points out, in his third season in the Netherlands, Paixao is having the best year of his career: 11 goals and 15 assists between Eredivisie and cups, with a performance that has not gone unnoticed. In particular, the goal he scored against AC Milan in the Champions League contributed significantly to Feyenoord’s passage to the round, solidifying his reputation in the international arena.
Born in the Brazilian state of Amapá, Igor Paixão trained at Coritiba before moving to Europe in 2022. Blessed with speed, superb technique, and dribbling skills, he plays mainly as an attacking left back, a position that could make him an ideal candidate to pick up the legacy of Lookman, who may leave in the summer. The Englishman has many admirers in the Premier League and La Liga: Barcelona, Liverpool, Arsenal and Nottingham Foresthave reportedly already made initial enquiries.
Feyenoord, aware of the growing value of its player, has set a valuation around 30 million euros, an important but not impossible figure for Atalanta, especially in the event of qualification for the next Champions League and a lucrative sale like Lookman’s. There are no ongoing negotiations at the moment, but preliminary contacts would have already taken place, with the aim of monitoring the situation ahead of the summer market window.
Beware of competition, however: Napoli and some Bundesliga clubs are also reportedly keeping a close eye on the Brazilian outfielder. The race for Paixão is wide open, and Atalanta may decide to sink the blow to get ahead of their rivals.
