Vanoli: “Victory of suffering. Yes, I cheered the audience, I am passionate”

Le parole del tecnico Roberto D’Aversa al termine della sfida tra Torino ed Empoli, valida per la 29^ giornata di Serie A

This is how Vanoli commented on the challenge between Torino and Empoli: “Today we made a victory of suffering, this is part of the club’s values. The fans – so to Sky – are pushing us, sometimes they would like to win with a few more goals because you play at home but there are also the opponents. Compared to the game against Parma we are good layers to understand who we had in front of us, in the final when I cheered the crowd it was because we needed our public. Casadei like De Bruyne? As characteristics he is more like Lampard or Gerrard.”

Is it important now to set a goal for Torino? “In the second half we have put another gear, we have had continuity, we have scored 10 points in the last four games. We lost points in Bologna and Parma, where we were ahead, we lacked a bit of mentality. I don’t look at the standings, we said with the guys that it would all be finals the last 12: we don’t have to go out there and win. Now there are ten more finals, now we will play against Lazio and we have to be up to it all the time.”

“We were able to stay in the game compared to Parma,” he added to Dazn, “the team was alive and it showed tonight. When they play you man on man you have to be fast. I have to say that the guys showed that we have the will to do something.” A victory of spirit and character, of those who understood that they have to win that way too? “I worked a lot on this aspect, I when I start at a club I look at history, this is important, we have to honor it, we have to drag the fans, they are understanding this. I told the guys that the Taurus DNA we have to have it inside, regardless of the result.”

On the moment when he urged the fans to raise their voices for the team, “I am passionate, I understand that we have a demanding public, I understand that the fans would like to see good soccer however at that moment there it was right to all give something more, these people are showing that.”

“The incitement to the audience? That was my desire, my passion. We have to become better with teams that play man on man all the way. I told the guys tonight that if we play with this mentality then the quality has to come out and tonight it came out on Vlasic’s goal. The initial 4-3-3 did not allow us to press well high, so much so that I then had to change a bit and asked for a sacrifice from Gineitis who had to follow Pezzella. We achieved three important points by suffering. Suffering also represents the DNA of the jersey we wear.”
