But why did Lopetegui ultimately not coach Milan? The Spanish coach explained, “It was difficult and strange to understand. It was not something with me, but an internal problem.” Thus, according to his statements, the decision not to hire the Spaniard again was dictated by an internal feud, probably the same one that is there today regarding future choices. Ibrahimovic on one side, Giorgio Furlani on the other.

Lopetegui’s story now represents the past, but his words are a fairly clear snapshot of the difficulties Milan is experiencing today from the inside at the club.
