Despite his recent return to the field in an Udinese jersey, Maduka Okoye was not included in Nigeria’s call-up list for the upcoming World Cup qualifying engagements. Coach Eric Chelle preferred to focus on Stanley Nwabali, Amas Obasogie and Kayode Bankole, leaving the 25-year-old out of the final selection.
Okoye was initially included in the pre-convocation list, but in the end he will not be part of the group that will face the upcoming international challenges. The HCL goalkeeper will therefore remain in Udine in the coming weeks, focusing on individual work to regain his best condition.
After a difficult period, the extreme defender is gradually regaining space in the Friuli team, and this forced break with the national team could prove useful in consolidating his position between the posts. The goal is to end the season on a high note and convince coach Chelle to recall him for future international challenges.
Despite the exclusion, the chances of seeing Okoye defending Nigeria’s goal remain high. The moment he returns to optimal form, he can in all likelihood regain the starting role. His experience and talent remain important assets for the Nigerian selection, which could rely on him again in the coming months.

Fin da piccolo Atta sognava di diventare calciatore: “Ho iniziato a giocare a cinque anni e sono felice e orgoglioso di essere arrivato fin qui. Mio papà è stato un calciatore professionista, ma solo per pochi anni a causa degli infortuni, però è rimasto nel mondo del calcio e ora lavora al Metz. È lui ad avermi trasmesso la passione per il calcio e mi ha sempre sostenuto”.
Come a molti altri bianconeri, Udine piace anche al centrocampista francese: “È una città piccola ma bella. La gente è simpatica, quando vinciamo sono contento per noi ma anche per i nostri tifosi, sono molto importanti”.
Infine, uno sguardo al futuro della squadra e dello stesso Atta: “Ora pensiamo partita dopo partita e vedremo dove arriviamo. Personalmente spero di fare gol, magari già la prossima partita, ho sempre le occasioni per farlo”.
