Carnival in the crosshairs of a La Liga big name?

According to reports coming from the Iberian press and confirmed by Sportmediaset’s colleagues, Atletico Madrid, after saying goodbye to its sporting director Andrea Berta (with the Italian manager seemingly very close to landing at Arsenal ahead of next season, ed.) is working to find his replacement.

One of the strong candidates to fill this role would be current HCL Scouting Manager Andrea Carnevale.

At the Pozzo Family club since 2004, he and his team are credited with some of the Friulani’s most important market hits with players taken from semi-strangers and resold by the pound. Want examples?

Among his most brilliant insights is Rodrigo De Paul, taken from Racing Club and now right at Atlético Madrid after winning the World Cup with Argentina. Other notable discoveries include Medhi Benatia, fished out of Clermont Foot, and the likes of Alexis Sánchez, Samir Handanović, Bruno Fernandes (bought very young from Novara and now a star for Manchester United), Piotr Zieliński, Kwadwo Asamoah, Duván Zapata and Juan Cuadrado, who arrived in Udine from Independiente Medellín before shining with Fiorentina and Juventus.

Carnevale’s possible landing at Atlético would represent an important recognition for his work and the scouting model that has made Udinese one of the most effective clubs in the development of emerging talent, but the final word will come from the Pozzo Family, which is unlikely to want to part with its more than reliable executive.
