In the days following the scandalous handling of the episodes in Lecce-Udinese by referee Bonacina and especially VAR Guida, the AIA had indeed made itself heard, but in a decidedly restrained manner. In fact, the association of Italian referees had not gone beyond defining at Open VAR as incorrect the decision to award the penalty to the Friulians, without elaborating on the decidedly questionable work of Marco Guida, already a recidivist in terms of moviolistic decisions at the Via del Mare.
One intervention there has been, however, through the AIA’s international activities, which concern making its members available for UEFA engagements. Well, these have led to the designation of an Italian delegation for a landmark round of 16 match as will be today’s PSG-Liverpool, in which, however, the absence of precisely the international referee Marco Guida makes a noise.
Referee will be Davide Massa, assisted by assistants Carbone-Alassio and fourth man Mariani. At VAR, then, the Di Paolo-Chiffi tandem. Of Guida not even a shadow, and thank goodness given a state of form that makes far too little noise when he is in the Italian periphery, but at the very least has led to a review of his actual abilities.
The article Guida “stopped” in Champions League: not part of AIA delegation for PSG-Liverpool comes from Calcio Lecce.
