Il sindaco di Torino è intervenuto ai microfoni di ToRadio: “Ora attendiamo una risposta dell’Agenzia delle Entrate sulle ipoteche”
This morning the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, as he does every Tuesday, took to the microphones of ToRadio to answer citizens’ questions. One of them was about the future of the Grande Torino Olympic Stadium: “The stadium issue is very close to my heart. We have a facility that has mortgages that exceed 30 million that were registered when Cimminelli’s Toro went bankrupt. At that time the Granata club had the surface right to that stadium. After the bankruptcy, the Internal Revenue Service registered mortgages on the various assets and also on the surface right to the stadium. When the facility returned to the availability of the city we found ourselves with a mortgaged stadium.”

Lo Russo then spoke about the request not to extend the mortgages, the value of which is about 38 million: “The mortgage expires at the end of June, and I have asked the Internal Revenue Service not to renew it because it is clear it cannot be collected. The city of Turin should not be the one to pay other people’s debts. Now it was no longer possible to give long concession extensions, we have provided for an extension of the concession under the same conditions for 18 months but we have to go to tender and we are open to expressions of interest from other operators as well. The goal is to arrive as soon as possible to define the implementation of a stadium that will allow us to make different reasoning than just the concession.”

The mayor then continued: “For next season there will be no problems, Torino will be able to continue playing at the Olimpico Grande Torino. This time will allow us to figure out how to proceed, in case the Internal Revenue Service accepts my request. If the mortgage is lifted, we have also opened to different hypotheses: the surface right to be put out to tender with project financing or a public-private partnership.”
