The Tuscan team could become the 41st different formation to reach the penultimate act of the competition. Empoli has gone unbeaten in each of the last three Coppa Italia competitions (2V, 1N); the last time the Tuscan team did better in a single edition of the tournament was in 2002/03 (four in that case, the result of three wins and one draw). Empoli has never repeated the same result in the last seven Coppa Italia away matches (3V, 1N, 3P), drawing the most recent one (2-2 against Fiorentina in regulation time just in the previous round, then getting the better of it in the lottery of penalties).”
