AC Milan falls to the bottom. After the elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Feyenoord, another disappointment came today: the defeat against Torino at the Olimpico. And it is a very hard knockout because it moves ever further away hopes of hooking fourth place in the standings, a fundamental condition for the club (a maximum goal for an economic issue) and for Sergio Conceicao, who can thus earn confirmation on the Rossoneri bench.

Milan’s defeat today is very difficult to explain because of how the two goals they conceded came about: the first was an own goal by Thiaw, with big responsibility on Maignan (the German repeated after the first leg’s own goal, only Baresi had managed that), while the second was a huge carelessness on the part of the entire defense, busy protesting as Gineitis went in for goal. Ingenuities that added to Theo Hernandez’s expulsion on Tuesday, decisive for the elimination.

Corsa Champions, Conceicao non molla: la promessa ai tifosi

As always, fans have gone wild on social media, although the most widespread sentiment is resignation. Almost there is no more anger but only the desire to end this championship soon. Moreover, there are also those who speak of a very strong emotional detachment from the team; and it is inevitable, since for this group losing, drawing or winning always seems to be the same thing.

Milan has entered a vicious circle and it is quite obvious: the feeling is that for a change of course a revolution is needed, not of the team but, rather, of a management that has so far reaped only failures. With the defeat against Torino, Milan moves away from the fourth place valid for the Champions League. However, Conceicao is not giving up: in the press conference after the match, the Portuguese coach wanted to make a promise to the fans.

“I want to say one thing from the heart: the season is not over, we are here to get to fourth place. I will be in Milanello working night and day. I don’t give a damn, I will work hours and hours to reach the goal.” However, the coach, who is the least of the culprits, underestimates one aspect: getting to the Champions League is the bare minimum and certainly does not make a season that is already a failure any better. Nor does the Coppa Italia, a useless trophy that neither gives nor takes away anything.
