Napoli-Inter and the possible return to the 4-3-3: an Azzurri could make a surprise start from the bench

With less and less to go before the upcoming league match against Inter Milan, Napoli could revert to the 4-3-3, a decision that could penalize one of Antonio Conte’s men.

Frank Zambo Anguissa’s injury is just the latest in a long line of shingles (click here to read the focus) that have marred Antonio Conte’s plans in recent weeks, and not in the least. Then again, the impact is evident when one considers that in their last four games Napoli have scored just three points, a performance that has allowed Inter to return to the top of the Serie A standings.

The Nerazzurri, on Saturday afternoon, will be guests at the Diego Armando Maradona in Fuorigrotta in a challenge that could say a lot about the fight at the top. The latest from the infirmary is not good news for Conte, who, however, could at least count on a possible return to the 4-3-3, a lineup that has made the fortunes of the Neapolitan team for much of this season. This decision, confirmed should Mathias Olivera return, could somehow “penalize” Giacomo Raspadori, a player who has been among the most encouraging with the 3-5-2.

News is awaited in the Napoli household on Mathias Olivera’s condition: should the latter be reenlisted, the odds regarding a return to the 4-3-3 could increasingly rise.

Such a choice would most likely contemplate the departure from the bench by Giacomo Raspadori, author of two important tests in Napoli’s two uninspiring matches, results in hand, with the 3-5-2. Should this scenario be confirmed, taking his place on the left in the attacking trident would be Leonardo Spinazzola, while waiting for David Neres to return from injury as well.

Napoli-Inter, senza Anguissa spazio a Billing

Frank Zambo Anguissa’s injury is forcing Antonio Conte to revise his plans regarding the midfield as well. In this regard, in place of the former Fulham man should see again from the first minute, after the presence in Como, of Philip Billing.

The player on loan from Bournemouth offered a very encouraging performance, although he seems not yet to have the full ninety minutes in his legs. The hope on the part of the square is that the eventual return to the 4-3-3 may further, perhaps, put Billing at ease, called upon to replace a non-trivial player for Conte, as is Anguissa.
