Atletico Madrid thus announced through its channels that it has terminated Andrea Berta’s contract: “The club and Andrea Berta have reached an agreement to terminate his contract. This decision marks the end of more than a decade of work characterized by good sporting results and the growth of the club. Berta’s arrival at Atlético Madrid took place in 2013, from Genoa, when he joined the International Scouting area within Sport Management to later occupy the role of technical director of the club. In 2017, he took over as sporting director, replacing José Luis Pérez Caminero, and thus becoming the head of the professional soccer area. During Andrea Berta’s time at the club, Atlético Madrid won a Copa del Rey (2013), two championships (2013-14 and 2020-21), a Spanish Super Cup (2014), a UEFA Europa League ( 2017-18), and a European Super Cup (2018). We want to thank Andrea for his commitment, effort and dedication during these 11 years and wish him the best in his new professional phase.”
Milan, Berta e non solo: i tifosi sognano un nuovo ds
Andrea Berta was the architect of Atletico Madrid’s successes under Diego Pablo Simeone on the bench. The Italian manager is therefore now free to start a new adventure, which can only be a prestigious one.

His resume, moreover, is on the desks of top clubs looking for a top sports director. We don’t know if it is on the Diavolo’s as well, but Rossoneri fans hope that an executive with Berta’s experience and skills will soon arrive at Milan. It is what is needed to make that leap in quality useful to challenge the big names of Italian soccer but not only. Among the names that could suit the Diavolo, moreover, is Giovanni Sartori, who has a contract (not yet renewed) with Bologna that expires next June 30. He also does not yet have a team, then, Igli Tare, who did so well at Lazio. In order to turn around – it is everyone’s idea by now – a real Sporting Director is needed.
