AS ROMA NEWS – “The Pietralata forest counterattacks” and activists plant trees where As Roma’s stadium is supposed to be built, writes today’s edition of La Repubblica. Several environmental associations including Schierarsi, founded by former Pentastellist Alessandro Di Battista, have planted “holm oaks, ash trees, elms, bagolari self-produced in three years and of very Roman genome,” in the area where “the Municipality would like to authorize the cementing of a useless stadium,” they wrote in a post on social media accompanied by several pictures of the operation.
The tree protest was also claimed by Anonima Forestazioni, which is an expert on trees: as a mission it has given itself to build nurseries, plant forests and “put others in a position to do so.” In this sense, the association after receiving a request for help from the committees opposed to the Roma stadium and decided to intervene together with several other realities such as Fridays for Future Roma, Sì parco No stadio, Arci Pietralata and other associations: Ecoresistenze, Potere al popolo, Donne de borgata.
Schierarsi, however, was founded in 2023 by Di Battista with the goal of bringing together “active citizenship,” the association’s website reads. Also sympathizing and engaging in the signature collections was former mayor Virginia Raggi, along with other members of the M5s’ past Capitol season such as Monica Montella. Returning to the seedlings, they were placed in the green area not only because this is where the foundation stone of the sports facility is supposed to be laid in 2027. But also because of the fact that there is an ongoing battle of appraisals on the forest in the area. According to those produced by the municipality it is not constrained, while for some agronomists it is.
