Juve, seen Giuntoli’s latest gift? Now ball to Igor Tudor to unwrap it

A name left on the table before leaving, an open door that it is now up to others to walk through. Giuntoli has already said goodbye, but he may have prepared the last blow

Cristiano Giuntoli is already a memory. Away from Juventus, away from the headlines, away from the decisions. John Elkann turned the page suddenly, without even waiting for the coffee to finish. Away with him, in with Comolli, in with Chiellini and who knows who else. Refoundation.

Now, that Giuntoli’s HCL experience has been far less brilliant than expected is clear to everyone. Inbound he hasn’t gotten many of them right, let’s face it. But in the outgoing he has. There he did the real work, the one that cannot be seen but remains: he cleaned up the budget. He lightened salaries, fixed deadlines, cleaned up.

And this cleanup today allows Juve to return to spending. Not with him, though. Because the protagonist of that restart has already been shown the door.

But before he left, something left her. A gift, perhaps. Not in the accounts – there the merit is there but invisible – but in a file. A name. A striker. A concrete idea that today, if someone decides to reopen it, can become reality.

Jonathan David era già mezzo bianconero: Tudor può affondare il colpo

No knockout blow, no daylight negotiations. But under the radar, between the folds of a market that seemed immobile, Giuntoli was bringing home Jonathan David, who will officially be released by Lille on June 30.

So many people know him, they all follow him. Inter, Napoli, a few English clubs, maybe even something in Germany. All held back by the same problem: the demands. The salary, the commissions, the operation. Too high.

Yet, Giuntoli with his entourage had found a point. Not a signed agreement, but a square in principle, an unwritten pact. The stuff that in soccer is sometimes worth more than a PEC. Contacts had been reconnected, the understanding was there, all that was missing was Juve’s yes. Which is now, precisely, in the hands of others.

Igor Tudor’s turn. Because the point is not only economic, it is technical. If the Croatian thinks David is functional to his game, then Juve can take up that talk and close. If not, if he doesn’t see him inside his 3-4-2-1 or however he wants to play, then it’s all over. In between there is also the Vlahovic issue, of course. Because if he leaves, the space for David opens up big time. But even there, everything is tied to the new technical line.

The real point, however, is that some of the dirty (and valuable) work has already been done. Giuntoli has left a ready opportunity as a dowry. It is up to Juve to figure out whether to unwrap the gift or forget it in the closet.
