Lazio, the roster is to be thinned out: who goes and who stays

Like every year, at the end of the season comes the time for the return to base of all the players owned by Lazio, but who have played for other clubs thanks to the temporary transfer formula. So many names to be evaluated, with Maurizio Sarri making it known to the club that the squad needs to be thinned out ahead of next season

UPDATE JUNE 7- As reported in today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, Lazio and Maurizio Sarri will have to carefully evaluate who to keep and who to give up on the side lanes. Nuno Tavares, will be carefully evaluated by the Tuscan coach, the single weekly commitment could facilitate him, but the last word will be up to the Commander. Similar discourse for Pellegrini, who if he leaves could be replaced by Parisi. The Fiorentina fullback, however, is not the only name on Lazio’s list, which includes, Firpo and Archie Brown of Gent. Right-back on whom, however, there is also competition from Torino. Also to be evaluated is the position of Marusic, Lazzari and Hysaj. The average age of the department is high, so there could be the idea of rejuvenating, and for this one of the targets could be, Gaaei of Ajax, valued almost 10 million by the Lancers.

UPDATE JUNE 6 – Having to play only one competition next year, Maurizio Sarri demands from the club a suitable squad numerically: so many returns from loans and redundancies in the squad. Those who will definitely not be part of the biancocelesti next year will be Toma Basic, out of the project, and Loum Tchaouna, heading to PSV Eindhoven; Cataldi and Floriani Mussolini the only two returns from loans with a chance to stay, while nothing to do for Marcos Antonio and Matteo Cancellieri, who will probably return to Parma. Developments on the issues of Patric and Vecino remain to be understood: the former returns from an injury that practically kept him out all last season, while the latter is struggling with a renewal that seems to be no longer coming; both are well acquainted with the Commander, who would like to assess their conditions before confirming them, however.

UPDATE JUNE 5-As reported in today’s edition of La Repubblica, one of Maurizio Sarri’s main demands concerns reducing the number of available personnel. Having to play only one competition in fact, the Tuscan coach would like 22 men at his disposal. Basic is clearly out of the project, but with him it will be necessary to evaluate also players such as Cataldi, Fares and Kamenovic, in order not to find himself starting the year with thorny situations to manage.

For most of the returnees it will be time to find a new home, others could be redeemed by the clubs they played for this season, and still others could find space in the biancoceleste project. The latter category could very well include Romano Floriani Mussolini and Cataldi. Mussolini is back from a great season played with Juve Stabia in Serie B, tallying a goal and two assists in 36 total appearances: for the product of the youth academy it seems the time has come for him to be able to play a chance at his club, with Lazio talking with the agents of the player whose contract expires in June 2026.

As reported in today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, Castrovilli and Akpa Akpro, on the other hand, have exhausted their experience with the biancocelesti; they have both gone on dry loan to Monza, but their contracts expire this June and consequently will be released at the end of the month. Instead, the cases of Cancellieri and Marcos Antonio are to be evaluated, but they too are expected to leave Lazio with no chance of staying. The Brazilian failed to impose himself at São Paulo and a redemption of him, for five million, seems very complicated.

To conclude the picture, finally, the return of several youngsters: Gabriele Artistico from Cosenza, Valerio Crespi from Feralpi, Fabio Ruggeri from Salernitana and Marco Bertini from Ascoli.
