Juventus, air of revolution: what’s boiling in the pot after Giuntoli’s farewell

It all started in Munich, but it is not the usual Champions League movie. This time Juventus chose to start there to mark a turning point, away from the spotlight but with pretty clear ideas. In a private suite not far from the Allianz Arena, where a few hours earlier PSG had lifted the cup with big ears, John Elkann, Giorgio Chiellini and Damien Comolli met to lay the foundations of a project destined to change the face of the club.

The first shock came at the top: after weeks of underground tensions and divergent visions, Cristiano Giuntoli left the helm of the sports area. His farewell was not a bolt from the blue, but rather the culmination of a rift that had never been healed with Elkann, who decided to give full mandate to Comolli, a former Toulouse man of data, method, and rigor. The goal? To turn over a new leaf and lead Juventus into a new era, where the key word will be “sustainability”-both in accounts and in the game.

Prima Conte,  poi Gasperini: ma nessuno viene a Torino

The search for a new coach has become almost a soap opera. The first name to pop up was that of Antonio Conte, still beloved by the fans despite his years at Inter Milan and Tottenham. A return in grand style seemed possible, but in the end it was he himself who backed out: too strong a bond with Naples and too risky a return to an environment he knows all too well.

Then it was the turn of Gian Piero Gasperini, author of a historic season with Atalanta. Here, too, negotiations started with enthusiasm but broke down against the proposal of Roma, which offered him carte blanche and a technical project very close to his idea of soccer. Two heavy “no’s,” which prompted Juventus to look more at home than away.

Tudor resta? Occhio a Marco Silva (e un’ombra chiamata Pioli)

In this scenario, the most solid name on the table remains that of Igor Tudor. The Croatian coach ended a messy season on a crescendo, finding support from much of the locker room and convincing even the higher-ups that perhaps, before making a change, it is better to assess what you have at home.

Damien Comolli, fresh out of office, wants to closely observe Tudor’s day-to-day work before deciding whether to confirm him at least until the Club World Cup (June 14-July 13). But behind the scenes there is movement. Marco Silva, currently at Fulham, has been contacted and remains a live lead.

Comolli likes his proactive style and would represent a marked change from the recent HCL past. More defiled, but not to be completely ruled out, is Stefano Pioli. And some whisper that even Roberto Mancini would not disdain a return to a club bench. An intrigue all to follow, where nothing is taken for granted.

Meanwhile, Juventus is trying to find itself. And perhaps that is the point: rather than finding the perfect solution right away, time is needed to figure out what identity the club really wants to build. The real challenge, for Elkann and his people, is not just choosing a coach. It is redefining what it means, today, to be the Old Lady. And you, what is your idea of the Juve to come?
