Marco Baroni è in pole per diventare il nuovo allenatore del Torino. Dalla carriera da calciatore a quella da allenatore: la sua storia
Torino is looking for a new coach. In pole for the granata bench is Marco Baroni. The 1963-born coach is fresh from his experience at Lazio and is the first name on Torino’s list to replace Paolo Vanoli.
Baroni’s journey into the world of soccer began in his hometown. He, a native of Florence, made his debut with the Fiorentina jersey in the 1981/82 season. In his career, the then central defender has worn emblazoned jerseys including Bologna, Lecce and Hellas Verona.
Le vittorie a Napoli e il doppio addio al calcio
Fiorentina was Baroni’s birthplace, but the player took off with the shirt of Monza in Serie B. The defender replicated good performances in 1983, again in the cadet league, with Padova. Saying goodbye to the Veneto club, Baroni signed for Udinese, establishing himself with the bianconeri in Serie A.
His European debut came in the Cup Winners’ Cup with Roma. Baroni wore the Giallorossi jersey from 1985 to ’88, totaling 31 appearances and 3 goals. Then back to Serie B with Lecce and a move to Diego Armando Maradona’s Napoli, Baroni’s most successful period. With the Azzurri, the former central scored 77 appearances, 5 goals and 1 assist, winning the league in the 1989/90 season and the Italian Super Cup the following year. Baroni twice announced his farewell to soccer. The first was in the 1999/2000 season with the Rondinella jersey. After 7 years, the defender signed for Malcantone, a Swiss club playing in the 2. Liga Interregional – Gruppe 3, totaling one appearance with the Swiss team.
La carriera da allenatore
Marco Baroni began his coaching career once he hung up his boots with Rondinella. Later, the former Napoli and Lecce man moved to Montevarchi and then served as assistant coach at Verona, when Alberto Malesani was leading the Veneto team.
Among his many experiences on the bench were Carrarese, Juventus youth team and Siena under-19 team. The Tuscan club is the team Baroni has coached the longest, as many as 90 benches. Among professionals, however, the longest-lasting experience was at Lecce, where the coach led the club in 80 matches between 2021 and 2023. Later, Baroni coached Hellas Verona and, most recently, Lazio. Marco Baroni has won 3 trophies as a coach: the emblazoned Viareggio tournament and the Coppa Italia Primavera with Juventus and the Serie B with Lecce in the 2021/2022 season.
