It was not just a bad season for the first team. Milan Futuro also experienced a disastrous first year, culminating in relegation to Serie D. The difficulties in Lega Pro were inevitable and predictable for a young and inexperienced team, both in players and technical leadership.
To these problems, then, the club added others of its own: the inexplicable decision by Ibrahimovic not to give Ignazio Abate, the coach who had raised the core of the team in the Primavera, a chance on the bench; the decision to place the project in the hands of his friend Jovan Kirowski, an unknown former American footballer from Los Angeles and catapulted into a particular reality that needs competence, knowledge and experience; and the late exoneration of Bonera. In his place came Massimo Oddo, who certainly did a good job, giving the team a chance to play at least the Play-Out, then lost to the more experienced Spal.

At the moment, Milan will play Serie D, but in Lega Pro there are still several situations to be resolved. The most tangled is that of Lucchese, which is officially bankrupt. The team, without salaries for months, on the field was saved in the Play-Out thanks to great spirit and heart. Unfortunately for them, it will not be enough: barring any twists and turns, they will not play in Serie C next year; Milan Futuro is in the running for repechage but is not the only one.

In any case, while waiting for news, the club has to plan the season to face the Serie D championship and try to go up immediately to Lega Pro. To do so, according to a report by Gianluca Di Marzio, the idea is to confirm Massimo Oddo on the bench. The former Rossoneri full-back, European champion with Ancelotti’s Milan in 2007, has certainly done a great job in recent months and has earned this chance.
Now it will be up to him to decide whether to accept going down so far in category but to carry on with the project or, instead, to try to wait for other calls. As of today, Milan’s plan is clear: to entrust him again with the team, which will be composed of youngsters from the Primavera and a few experienced elements, with the hope that the same mistakes of this year will not be repeated. What will happen with Kirowski also remains to be seen, but he seems to be moving toward confirmation.
