Earthquake in Serie A, ranking changes: Milan in first place

Sensational in Serie A! Top league standings change: Milan in first place. Here’s what’s happening

As is well known, the playout matches between Salernitana and Frosinone have been postponed until a later date because of Brescia’s possible penalty for an alleged irregularity committed in conjunction with the February deadline for the payment of salaries and contributions.

Should Brescia, which beat Reggiana 2-1 on the last day to be saved, actually be penalized, it could be relegated directly. In that case, Frosinone would save itself by avoiding the play-offs not to relegate while Sampdoria would have a chance to save itself by challenging Salernitana in the playout instead of the Ciociari.

But if Brescia’s possible penalty can rewrite the lower part of the Serie B standings, a real earthquake upsets that of the top league such that in first place now there is even Milan.

The great disappointment of the season is undoubtedly Milan, which will not be involved in any of the three Uefa competitions in the next one. However, the ‘Diavolo’ can console itself with the figure for “stadium revenues,” which not only affect, along with TV rights and commercial revenues, the income statement but also determine the distribution of the league’s TV rights revenues.

Well, according to the average spectator rankings for the 2024-25 Serie A compiled by “Calcio e Finanza,” with one day to go in the league in the lead is AC Milan, which in its home matches recorded an average touching 71,680 spectators per match, higher than Inter Milan’s 70,072.

The Rossoneri, with 90 minutes to go until the final gong, will need only 32 thousand spectators in their last match to end the ‘fans’ championship’ at the top. On the podium is Roma, which has more than 62 thousand spectators in its home matches, while Napoli and Lazio are in fourth and fifth place with over 50 thousand and almost 44 thousand average spectators, respectively.

But it is all of Serie A that registers a rather high average: 30,817 spectators, with a stadium fill rate of 92.18 percent. Standing out in this ranking is Cagliari, which exceeds 97.9 percent, followed by Como with 97.05 percent and Juventus with 96.94 percent while Milan touches 94.66 percent.

A figure, the average Serie A spectatorship, that is clearly up from the 83 percent with which the past edition of the top league ended. Specifically, Serie A will end the season with over 30,000 average spectators for the second time in a row: this has not happened since the late 1990s when there were even three years that closed over 30,000 spectators (31,223 average spectators in 1997/98, 30,762 in 1998/99 and 30,025 in 1999/2000).
