Turning point hours for the future of AC Milan. After more than three months, the club has finally chosen the sporting director who will join the classic team formed by Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada: it will be Igli Tare who will fill the position left vacant by Frederic Massara and who was never bothered to fill it before. The former Lazio man was the name chosen by Ibrahimovic in mid-February, before Furlani’s trip to the States to meet Cardinale and impose himself on the Swede.
At that point, a casting process began involving first Fabio Paratici (with whom there was agreement on everything) and then Tony D’Amico, but after collecting only refusals, the CEO eventually went back to Tare. The Albanian is undoubtedly an excellent choice for Milan because he has skills, knowledge and experience, but he will always be limited by the Rossoneri’s corporate structure. A condition that evidently suits him: the former biancoceleste player has accepted the job and is ready to sign.

Milan has met with Tare several times in recent months: most recently, in Rome with Furlani. But the deal has only come into focus in recent days. The CEO, Sky Sport reports, had made another attempt for D’Amico in the past few hours: at the umpteenth no, he decided to tack definitely on Tare, with whom the agreement came immediately. The former Lazio man, who has been stationary for a couple of years, is eager to start a new experience.

Tare will sign a three-year contract, two of which are guaranteed (the classic two plus one, in short) at €800,000 per season. The Albanian will thus earn less than a million to be the sporting director of one of the most important teams in Italy (and Europe) that needs to be deeply rebuilt. The signing should come in the next few days, after which there will be a presentation to the press probably in early June. An important graft for a club with serious shortcomings from a technical point of view.
Tare’s arrival does not replace anyone: Moncada will remain at Milan and will share every technical choice with the former Lazio. The two have known each other for a long time: they have had several confrontations over the years and a good relationship has resulted. That was probably an important factor in this choice. Moreover, Tare has already been close to the Rossoneri in the past: it was 2019 and Paolo Maldini, as technical director, was starting the reconstruction of Milan and had targeted the former footballer for the role of sporting director, but nothing came of it and Massara arrived in his place.
