He leaves Milan for 40 million: club lets him go

Milan is planning a revolution. A top player bye-bye: the Rossoneri aim to get 40 million from the player’s sale.

There is an air of revolution in the Milan household. The disappointment linked to the defeat in the Coppa Italia final was compounded by the loss suffered on Sunday at the hands of Roma, which effectively sanctioned their failure to qualify for the European cups. The Rossoneri, in light of the many bitternesses experienced during the season, will rebuild the squad in the summer in order to make it more competitive at high levels. Several disposals are in the pipeline, through which the club aims to cash in fresh resources to reinvest.

Leaving the company will certainly be Theo Hernandez, but the list of departures also includes other names. This is the case of Tammy Abraham, destined to return to the capital. The 27-year-old Englishman has slipped back in the hierarchies of Sergio Conceico who, in the last 2 league matches, has kept him on the bench without deeming his employment necessary. Also gone is Samuel Chukwueze, whose last goal dates back to March 2. And it does not end there, because among the suspects to leave is also Mike Maignan.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has had a mixed year, full of negative performances and mistakes that have made his stay in the city uncertain and deprived him of his untouchable status. His contract with AC Milan, as is well known, expires on June 30, 2026 and, until a few weeks ago, the deal appeared close on the basis of a three-year deal at 4.5 million net per year. Now, however, the management coordinated by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and technical director Geoffrey Moncada has proceeded to halt the negotiation while waiting to figure out in which direction to move.

Already on display in the window, meanwhile, is the price tag. Management in particular, as reported on ‘X’ by ‘Caught Offside’ site journalist Ekrem Konur, aims to cash in on 40 million from the departure of the extreme defender. A figure, this one, that would allow for a valuable as well as substantial capital gain to be budgeted given that just under 17 million had been needed to buy him from Lille in July 2021.

Now it remains to be seen who will come forward in concrete terms. Bayern Munich recently made a series of soundings aimed at checking the feasibility of the deal and the player’s willingness to move to Germany. Milan and Maignan may part ways soon. The Frenchman’s future is all to be written.
