A guest of Dutch TV station Ziggo Sport during the “Rondo” program, Francesco Farioli returned to talk about his painful farewell to Ajax and his future. In fact, the former Nice man is in contention for the bench of several European clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Roma and Braga. Here are his words.
On the decision to leave Ajax.
“We shared the same goal, but we had a different vision of how to achieve it. Also about the time and urgency to get things done. This difference has always been there. It makes sense, because in such a big team it is not easy to put things off. I’m not saying I wanted everything right away, but to raise the level of the club a lot had to happen. On the first day I had made a list of things that I thought needed to be changed. I knew that Ajax was iconic club, an institution. One of the most important clubs in the world, with a recognizable style of play and trophies. The club came to talk to me. They had a project and explained why I was the right candidate. You always have to analyze everything carefully. I did that with my staff. We watched the matches and analyzed the players. We also analyzed why things went so badly. The club was struggling but still wanted to get great results, and I liked that.”
“The meetings lasted a very long time, so I presented myself well. I had put my strengths and weaknesses on the table, as well as points that might give rise to conflict. Before you get married, you should know who your partner will be. I wanted to clarify who I am and what I believe in. And I did. Many players were interesting, I wanted to work with them. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and that’s why I wanted to try.”
Will your future be in Italy? There is a lot of talk about Roma…
“There is a lot of speculation, a lot of rumors, and you know how it works … I, however, want to go back to coaching.”
Would you like to go to Roma?
“As happened with Ajax, I don’t care about the brand and the importance of the team. What matters is the way you want to do things and last summer Ajax was what I wanted. It was the right step for my career and now we will see what the next one will be. We will see if and when this opportunity comes.”
Francesca Ferrazza (Tele Radio Stereo): “Il tifoso è giusto che sogni, ma la realtà ci dice che ancora non c’è un allenatore. Io sono scioccata…Tra i sogni e il povero Espirito Santo, questi non hanno un allenatore dopo sei mesi. Questa è roba da dilettati…”
Lorenzo Pes (Tele Radio Stereo): “Non dico che la Roma dovrebbe dirci il nome dell’allenatore, ma almeno quello che vuole fare, perchè poi la gente si esalta per alcuni nomi e si deprime per altri: siamo passati da Klopp a Espirito Santo. Se si crea questa altalena, la gente va sulle montagne russe. Penso sarebbe giusto che tu chiarissi le tue intenzioni. Dopo una stagione come questa e come quella passata, ancora non si è capito che serve qualcosa di diverso? La sensazione è che l’allenatore non sia ancora stato scelto, e questo è grave. Poi spero di sbagliarmi…”
Alessio Nardo (Tele Radio Stereo): “La Roma non dice niente, perchè dobbiamo pensare che l’allenatore non ci sia? Sulla base di quali informazioni? Se la Roma avesse in mano già l’allenatore, non avrebbe bisogno di cercare altri tecnici, che siano Fabregas o Gasperini. Se fosse vero che il tecnico non è ancora stato scelto, staremmo in un mare di escrementi, ma dalle parole di Ranieri devo pensare che l’allenatore ci sia e che si aspetti solo la fine della stagione per annunciarlo. Sarebbe gravissimo se la Roma al 21 maggio stesse ancora brancolando nel buio…”
Piero Torri (Radio Manà Manà Sport): “Espirito Santo? Penso che qualcosa ci sia stato, che un contatto tra Lina Souloukou e i Friedkin ci sia stato, perchè da quello che so i rapporti tra di loro sono rimasti buoni. Se tutto questo è vero, vuol dire solo una cosa: la Roma non ha ancora un allenatore nonostante il tempo avuto. Da quello che sono riuscito a sapere, la Roma era convinta di prendere Fabregas, ma quando lui si è sfilato, la Roma è rimasta spiazzata, e ha dovuto ricominciare daccapo…”
Daniele Lo Monaco (Radio Romanista): “Sarri era stato contattato dalla Roma e da Tiago Pinto, era stato raggiunto un accordo di massima, nel frattempo Friedkin contattò personalmente Mourinho, e Pinto si adeguò. Questa è la storia. Ora è possibile che Gasperini fosse la prima scelta della Roma e che ci abbia ripensato, oppure ci ha ripensato Friedkin dopo aver letto quello striscione…però che l’ambiente era contrario era una cosa che dovevi sapere mesi fa, ma dopo Juric mi aspetto di tutto…Espirito Santo? La testata che ha dato la notizia è autorevole. Su Klopp, la Stampa fino a ieri la consideravo una testata importante, ma dopo quello che ha fatto con un articolo al mattino che smentisce tutto quello che aveva scritto la sera prima, per me non è più una testata seria…”
Mario Mattioli (Radio Radio): “Se è vero che il figlio di Friedkin ha provato a convincere Ranieri, significa che ancora un allenatore non c’è. Al di là del nome dell’allenatore, l’importante è che la Roma questa estate possa prendere quattro giocatori…”
Nando Orsi (Radio Radio): “Roma in Champions? Non sarà facile la partita col Toro, nelle ultime non hanno vinta una partita e si presentano con qualche contestazione, e non penso che Cairo sarà tenero in caso di ulteriore sconfitta…Secondo me per la Roma sarà una partita vera, non è mica detto che gliela regalano. La Roma è più forte e alla fine può vincere. Ma secondo voi il Toro sta pensando alla Juventus che non deve andare in Champions? Ma che gli frega, quelle sono cose soltanto nostre…”
