Carrera: “Conte had been good at bringing the winning mentality to Juve”

Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, former footballer Massimo Carrera spoke about his time at Juve as a collaborator with Conte: “At Juve you always feel the obligation to win. There I understood what the weight of the jersey means. The little task you cannot afford, even in training there was agonism. Those were the years of Capello’s Milan, difficult to win the Scudetto. But we won the Uefa Cup by playing some great games. Antonio was great at bringing the winning mentality and convincing the group that it was possible to snatch the Scudetto from Milan. Lippi, too, had done a great job from the psychological point of view: that was the first championship in which a win earned three points, and we interpreted the novelty well by proposing aggressive soccer. And then that was a group of friends, devoid of jealousies.”

“The months of Conte’s disqualification? It was my apprenticeship. I learned a lot and I can’t tell you the satisfaction when on the field the players replicated what we had rehearsed in training. Initially it looked like Baroni, who was Juve’s Primavera coach, should go on the bench. In a friendly in Salerno, Antonio told me that I would lead the team. He was satisfied and so we continued. Sometimes he would let me lead the training sessions, to put me at ease,” he concluded. Meanwhile comes an important update on Juve’s market: crazy swap with Napoli for Osimhen… <<<
