Everyone thinks that Milan will start from scratch in June. Yet, Giorgio Furlani’s words before the match with Bologna seem to tell another reality. The Rossoneri CEO was quite clear. The search for a sporting director is not an urgency, nor a priority, so much so that they are already working on the market even without one. And Sergio Conceicao’s future is far from a foregone conclusion: with a Coppa Italia win, the Portuguese coach would see his chances of staying on increase, unless he himself considers leaving after such a difficult and stressful six months. In short, anything can still happen.
Furlani’s words, however, are worrying: apparently, two years of failures were not enough to understand the mistakes and intervene in the right way. A sports director up to the task, in fact, should instead be a priority. More importantly, he should not be an extra piece of the team (as he seems to be) but an added value to whom important decisions should be entrusted.

Speaking of added value: Fabio Paratici, among the best available free agents around, would have been it. Maximum experience and expertise, exactly what Milan needed. We had come within a step of signing until a sudden and incredible about-face by the Rossoneri, which displaced Paratici himself in the first place (who didn’t want to hear any more and is now close to a return to Tottenham).
Paratici would have been a guarantee: with him Milan would surely have begun to set the work in the right way. With purchases yes but also in the most important choices such as, for example, that for the bench. With him as sporting director, Milan could think of names like Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri, with whom it has an excellent relationship. And about the latter (who is in Italy for the Internazionali d’Italia and is not a Roma target), there are those who believe that, together with Paratici, he would have formed the best possible pair for Milan: “I am convinced that if the Allegri-Paratici pair was formed, Milan would win the Scudetto next year,” were the words of Simone Braglia to TMW Radio. No doubt then for him, and it is the same thought of many fans as well. They do not seem to be of the same opinion at Milan: Paratici is now gone, Allegri remains an idea but should not be in line with the usual stakes (economic and management).
