I numeri della sconfitta contro l’Inter: i granata hanno tirato più volte dei nerazzurri, ma si sono dimostrati più imprecisi e sfortunati
At a packed Olympic Stadium, Torino failed in its quest to beat second-place Inter Milan and a Champions League finalist. The Nerazzurri needed only one goal per half to secure the result and prevent Adams and his teammates from getting back into the game. And indeed, the Granata remained in the game for the entire 90 minutes – as evidenced by the two dangerous actions in the final -, managing on a few occasions to put the opponents in trouble but failing to score goals. The numbers of the match, in this sense, speak of how the Toro tried to play even.
Le statistiche
Despite the fact that the result would have you believe that Inter dominated far and wide, actually having a look at the statistics shows that at the offensive level Toro produced even more than Inzaghi’s boys: 17 shots to 12, for a total of 12 chances created against the 8 of the reigning Italian champions. All for a total expected goals value of 1.57, meaning that the granata should have scored at least one goal. Instead, this was not the case, due to the usual issue related to cynicism. Suffice it to say that of the 17 attempted shots only 3 ended up toward the goal – including one saved with a miracle by Martinez – numbers that really give one pause for thought.
I dati del possesso
However, the issue related to ball possession was different, as the guests held more of the ball of the game. The Toro finished with 367 successful passes – against the Nerazzurri’s 542 -, and not surprisingly Ricci and Gineitis were among the worst on the field having little of the ball between their feet.
Gvidas Gineitis of Torino FC competes for the ball with Joaquin Correa of FC Internazionale during the Serie A football match between Torino FC and FC Internazionale.
