Roberto Mancini himself is the one who told the Messaggero’s notebooks about the background of his transfer, after he had considered his experience at Sampdoria over and was ready for a new experience: “I talked again with President Moratti, as had also happened a few years earlier. But it was destiny that I would go to Inter only as a coach,” just like that, because it was President Cragnotti who shuffled the cards and drew the joker with the 10 on his shoulders in the end, and with a phone call he blew up the deal: “At that moment came the phone call from another president, Sergio Cragnotti. One interview was enough for me to understand what the prospects would be. And then I knew that Eriksson, with whom I had shared five wonderful years at Samp, would arrive,” concludes the former technical commissioner of the Italian national team. Between Eriksson and him, moreover, a type of indissoluble bond had been created: “I was struck by the way he had managed to recreate the team after the end of a cycle, the sale of Vialli and a Champions Cup final lost on the line.”
