Champions League, Inter Milan’s final ingenuity: now it’s heartache

Inter’s Champions League final is yet another blow to Milan fans: fueled discontent, no confidence for the future

One of the worst seasons in Milan’s history is drawing to a close. Everything that there was to be wrong has been wrong on the part of the club. Giorgio Furlani, who took control of the sports area after the departure of Paolo Maldini, is primarily responsible as CEO. Geoffrey Moncada also showed great shortcomings, and there is also great disappointment with the contribution of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has not been seen or heard from in weeks (he as well as Furlani were not in Genoa with the team on Monday).

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Naviglio, Inter won their second Champions League final in three years, a goal Milan has not reached since the Athens final in 2007. The Nerazzurri, on the other hand, are the third team, after Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, to have played more in recent years. Appointment on May 31 in Munich to take on Psg after the final two years ago with Manchester City: for those who believe in signs of destiny, after what happened at San Siro on Tuesday against Barcelona, they know very well that the odds of an Inter success are very high.

L’umore dei tifosi: nessuna speranza per il futuro

By winning this Champions League, Inter would reach 4, which is not that far from Milan’s 7. Moreover, the Nerazzurri have every intention of not stopping and have the possibilities, skills and quality to make sure that this positive path can go on for a long time to come. There is no doubt that today Inter is among the best teams in Europe and has proven it in this Champions League, right from the group stage: and the distance with Milan is huge, almost indefinite.

Inter’s successes and yet another Champions League final have fueled the discouragement of Milan fans, who were already quite burned by what happened last year with the Scudetto won in their faces in that famous April 22 derby a year ago. And now, to add insult to injury, yet another great achievement won by the Nerazzurri. The Rossoneri supporters, on social media, have spoken words of praise for their cousins and for the Nerazzurri project, congratulating them on this goal; on the other hand, they have still lashed out at Milanese ownership.

Trust in Furlani, Moncada, Ibrahimovic, and Cardinale is practically nonexistent, as it should be: Milan fans do not see in this team the right competence (and perhaps even the will) to rebuild Milan and bring it back to where it deserves to be. And there is growing regret over the farewell of Paolo Maldini, who had been almost prophetic in his last months as a Rossoneri manager.

He had shown everyone the way to be able to grow and close the gap with the big boys, but instead RedBird preferred to go against the grain, and the results have been seen: in just two years, he has taken Milan to ninth place in the standings, out of the Champions League and with little chance of dreaming big (despite the huge amount of millions spent on the market). Fans are left to hope for the cyclical nature of soccer: Milan is destined to become Milan again, sooner or later. It will do so with the right people in the right place and at the right time. We just have to grit our teeth.
