Luciano Spalletti returns to talk about his past and surprises Napoli fans. The former coach’s announcement is crystal clear.
The history of Napoli will forever be linked to the name of Luciano Spalletti. The latter, thanks to an incredible year, managed to give the third Scudetto to the people of Campania after thirty-three very long years. Amidst general disbelief, the Italian coach dominated far and wide in the Italian league, giving birth to a knockout season. Unfortunately, however, after winning the tricolor the roads parted, partly because of “strained” relations with President Aurelio De Laurentiis. Years later, the former Zenit, Inter and Roma man has sent a very clear message.

Luciano Spalletti surprises the Napoli world. Despite the fact that the fans and the whole square are now focused on the present and the possible Scudetto victory, the Italian coach wanted to “pay homage” once again to his old supporters. The bond between the city and the coach is incredible, obviously thanks to the successes that have been achieved over the years.

Unfortunately, however, the end of the “journey” was a bit stormy, due to strained relations with President Aurelio De Laurentiis. As reported by “Il Corriere della Sera” today is the day of the debut of Luciano Spalletti’s autobiographical book. Inside the work is a chapter entitled “Hidden Truths” where he refers to Napoli and beyond. The following are his words.
“Naples and Napoli will never be my past. I left because I was tired of maintaining that character conflict with De Laurentiis. A capable entrepreneur, but perhaps with too strong an ego. So many people ask me what would have happened if the attitude had been different. The answer is clear: I would have stayed in Naples, even more if there had been more human respect and more dialogue to win again. In any case, I will always thank him.”
On De Laurentiis: “He was the one who certified whether a choice was right or not. I was tired of having battles over every issue. Whether it was giving players a jersey for their children or having to change hotels all the time.
On winning the Scudetto: “Excessive secrecy led him to not even show up with a phone call. He was too busy playing his personal game on the Maradona turf. He had me deliver a letter where there was a line for congratulations, but then he subjected me ala the need to stick to the contract.”
