Sanabria is there but not seen: against Venezia, he wastes starting chance

Dopo due panchine consecutive il paraguaiano torna titolare ma delude le aspettative: un’altra partita da dimenticare

The match preceding the anniversary of the Tragedy of Superga is always a special moment for the players, taking the field and giving their all to show their attachment to the jersey supported by the drive of the many Granata fans. However, Torino yesterday seemed to have forgotten this anniversary, at least for the first 45 minutes, showing a disappointing performance that was accompanied by booing from the stadium.

Among the players who, on the eve of the match, could have relaunched themselves in this final part of the season, Sanabria did not take advantage of this opportunity; he was given the chance to go down among the starters but in the first 45 minutes he played an insufficient game, without having participated in any potentially dangerous action for the opponent’s goal. Accomplicated by the team’s lackluster performance in general and the few playable balls he received, the Paraguayan striker was substituted at halftime after a first half spent lightly pressing the opponent’s defense.

Il ritorno da titolare

After playing the full 90 minutes in the match against Como, Sanabria did not take part in Torino’s next two games: against Venezia, coach Vanoli decided to go back to him to give Ché Adams some rest. However, this forgettable test is the result of a demotivated and disorganized team, as Torino was in the first half, in which an individual can hardly manage to make a difference. In the second half, the changes and the desire to get back into the game affected the team’s play, which became dangerous again on the offensive end and allowed them to grab the equalizer.

Un difficile finale di stagione

In a season devoid of great scoring numbers, Sanabria against Venezia had the opportunity to earn the confirmation of the club and the fans for the near future. However given his recent difficulties to impose himself in the team’s game, in this final season if he fails to reverse the trend of the last performances, the striker who has worn the Torino jersey for as many as 5 seasons would risk ending up on the fringes of the team with the possibility of being sold in the summer and ending his story in a negative way at Torino. Now the Paraguayan striker has only two more games at his disposal to succeed in stamping his card at least once in front of his own fans at the Olimpico Grande Torino and thus attempt to save his season’s tally.
