Toro, defeat by two goals: hasn’t happened since December

Il Toro ha perso 2-0 al Maradona di Napoli. L’ultima sconfitta granata con 2 gol di scarto risaliva al match di dicembre contro il Bologna

At the “Maradona,” Torino surrendered to Napoli. The granata lost 2-0 to Conte’s team, which rose to the top of the Serie A standings. McTominay’s double knocked out Milinkovic-Savic and his teammates, whose defeat was in the air already after the first 45 minutes.

For the Taurus, this is the third knockout loss in 2025. In the current year, the Granata have lost 3 of the 16 games played. In general, Vanoli’s boys are having a decent turnaround, except for a few disappointing draws. Currently, Torino occupies the 10th position in the league. The formation captained by Ricci (absent in the last match due to a knee problem) is followed by Como, minus one in the standings from the granata. More detached is Udinese. The Friulians, after the long tussle with Toro, have dropped two lengths from their rivals also because of the draw against Bologna yesterday, April 28.

L’ultima sconfitta con due gol di scarto

The defeat at the “Maradona” brings with it an unusual statistic. Toro had not lost a match by 2 goals since last December 21. At that time, the granata surrendered at home against Bologna. Goals by Dallinga and former Pobega knocked out Vanoli’s lineup. Also in that case, Torino took the field with the 3-5-2, the same module deployed against Napoli.

Since then, Toro has suffered 3 more defeats, 2 of which were by a single goal (3-2 again against Bologna and 1-0 in Como). The knockout against Napoli rewrote the history of the Granata season. Vlasic and his teammates lost only 2 matches with as many goals scored. Besides the aforementioned home defeat against Bologna, Toro lost the first derby against Juventus 2-0.

La differenza reti negativa

Torino is back to having a negative goal difference. The 2 goals conceded in Naples bring the granata’s goal count to 39. Torino’s offense scored 38 goals, so the goal difference drops to minus one.

Toro must put up goals and points to end the season on a positive note. In the last four league challenges, the granata will face Venezia (May 2), Inter (May 11), Lecce (May 18) and Roma (May 25).

Paolo Vanoli, head coach of Torino FC, looks on prior to the Serie A football match between Torino FC and Cagliari Calcio.
