Zambrotta: “Before Juve, Milan wanted me.”

Gianluca Zambrotta, a former Juve player, has his say on the Bianconeri. Here are his words to podcast Basement: “I arrived at Juve in 2000 after two years in Serie A with Bari. I was about to sign for AC Milan, but in the end Juve offered more and won that market duel. I worked two years with Ancelotti and we always finished second, with immediately the famous Perugia scudetto. It was a bad season as results, but positive for me coming to a big one. In Perugia I was sent off after we were stationary for an hour-an hour and a half, the field was impassable. I was a kid, it was a huge catastrophe. Perugia was a team absolutely within our reach, it was a general fault of ours.”

“So that summer I was called up for the European Championship, it was my first major commitment with Italy and I was sent off after half an hour in the semifinal against Holland. Despite that they managed to get to penalties and win. In the final against France we play a great game and at 93′ I decide to leave the stands to go down and celebrate with my teammates and just then the equalizer comes. In extra time I stay the whole time in the locker room and Trezeguet scores. It was another tremendous drubbing, the locker room was dead. My season then ended with the Sydney Olympics in which I injured my knee, the year 2000 is one to forget for me. Fortunately, soccer always gives you another chance if you are good at it.” Meanwhile, here are Bonetti’s words<<<
