Rays of sunshine among dark clouds. One can sum up Tijjani Reijnders and Milan’s season in this way: in the disaster of these nine long months, the Dutchman is, along with a few others, the light at the end of the tunnel. Fifteen goals as a midfielder: the last, in the Coppa Italia return derby against Inter for the final three-nil. But over the course of these months he also scored another important goal: a contract renewal until 2030. In the midst of a year of great crisis (sporting and identity, which then the two go hand in hand), Reijnders decided to bind himself for life – or almost – to the Rossoneri colors.

A great gesture, appreciated by fans and others. Milan will definitely restart from him, and hopefully also from Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Gabbia, Thiaw, Fofana, Pulisic, and Leao. The Super Cup in January was his first trophy in a Rossoneri shirt, and now he hopes for a doblete with the Coppa Italia. But there is a more important goal in his path, and he wants to achieve it with Milan.

In a long and beautiful interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Reijnders had a chance to talk about many things: from the rivalry with Inter (“they have never beaten us, Milan is Rossoneri”) to the recent renewal. In between, many topics including dreams and goals for the coming years in Italy. There is one in particular that is fixed in his head and that he wants to achieve as soon as possible.

“The goal is to win trophies. This season we can win two, but in the coming seasons my biggest dream is to put the second star above the Milan patch.” Last year, Inter’s cousins achieved the second-star Scudetto in the very derby back in the league; this year, Milan took revenge with three derbies won and two drawn, then without ever losing (after losing six in a row with Pioli on the bench, never able to find a countermeasure to the Nerazzurri as Fonseca and Conceicao did).

But that second Inter star, who is also in danger of reaching 21 this season and again widening the gap with the Rossoneri, has not exactly gone down well with Reijnders as well as the fans. The desire to reach that milestone is very high for everyone and especially for the Dutchman, now a Milanese and Milanese by adoption.
