The season of major decisions is approaching. Recently, Milan has been getting them all wrong. This year’s failure was quite predictable because of how last summer went and the choices made. None of the executives, however, seems to be at risk: Furlani, Moncada and Ibrahimovic (perhaps with less media exposure) will remain on the organizational chart with the addition, two years too late, of a sporting director. It was supposed to be Fabio Paratici but now it could be Igli Tare, with maximum attention to surprises.
We will have to choose well and quickly because there is a whole season to plan and, as we said, important choices to be made. The first will be the new coach, and then together with him build the base of players from which to start again. Who will be among them from the old guard? Of the Milan team that won the Scudetto three years there are six left, which will probably become four: Maignan, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez and Leao. Yet, of these four half are still in doubt.

Gabbia recently renewed, Leao has no intention of leaving. Maignan and Theo do not want to change air either, but there are open reflections on him from the club. Both are due to expire in only a year: with the former there was a basis for agreement, with the latter, however, no major signals ever came from Casa Milan in negotiations. As of today, just over a month into June, the situation still seems to be in flux.

According to reports in Corriere della Sera, negotiations with Maignan have stalled: the agreement was already there on the basis of another two-year contract-with an option for the third-at 5 million a season. Agreement, however, never finalized: clearly something is wrong. The club has taken its time: because the Frenchman has had a downturn (but in recent weeks, including the recent semifinal with Inter, he has become decisive again) and because without Champions next year perhaps that economic agreement is too high.
The situation with Theo is different: Moncada said Wednesday that “we’re working, we’re not far off,” and yet signs continue not to come. For both of them, it will depend on their performance: Maignan is back to his classic levels, Theo still goes through an alternating current. One thing is certain: Milan should not deprive themselves of either of them. And let’s hope they won’t get this decision wrong in the end as well.
