IT Happens Today April 20: Summit clash, Fortunato launches Lazio. Best wishes Agostinelli

HAPPENING TODAY, APRIL 20 – Lazionews.eu’s column in which we tell you about day-by-day events in biancoceleste history and beyond.

Accadde oggi 20 aprile

LAZIO – April 20, 1969. At the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Brescia, the leading team, arrives: the Leonessa’s 36 points give them the lone lead in the cadet league standings, closely followed by Lazio, at 35. For the biancocelesti, therefore, the overtaking mission is triggered. Coach Lorenzo recovers goalkeeper Di Vincenzo in extremis, out for three interminable months: he will be little employed but, on balance, will prove decisive in the only two chances created by the guests.

The one, however, who is irrepressible is Ferruccio Mazzola, who draws soccer and initiates virtually every action of the biancocelesti. It was a Lazio monologue for ninety minutes and more, with Cucchi running for eight, Morrone coming on in alternating phases, but with peaks of total irrepressibility, with Soldo franking De Paoli, effectively cancelling him out, and, above all, with Fortunato unlocking the result in the 64th minute, making his own public explode with joy. In the last half hour Lazio could expand, however, even risking the equalizer in the only defensive carelessness. Overtaking is a done deal, Serie A closer.

HISTORY – April 20, 1964. In the midst of Italy’s economic boom, an all-native excellence, envied and praised by half the world, was born, initially as a “food for the poor”: Nutella. The fairy tale was born more than two decades earlier, when Cuneo entrepreneur Pietro Ferrero, brought to his knees by World War II, was looking for an innovative yet economical recipe: thus, the first step was the marketing of a hazelnut cream (a typical product of the Langhe region), combined with cocoa, called Giandujot, in honor of the Piedmontese Carnival mask. The success is stratospheric and Ferrero is thus forced to abandon the artisanal reality, creating a real company that still bears his name.

It would be his son Michele, however, who first created Supercrema in 1951 and then, twelve years later, Nutella as we know it today (Nutella, from “nut” = hazelnut and “ella,” to give the idea of a thick cream). The first jar left the Alba factory, precisely, on April 20, 1964, to conquer the German market in just 365 days and the U.S. market in less than a five-year period. Since 1995, “Nutella” has been to all intents and purposes an Italian word, included among its headwords by Devoto-Oli, and Luxembourg is estimated to be the largest consumer, with a per capita average of one kilo a year (in Italy, 800 grams).

SPORT – April 20, 1957. Andrea Agostinelli was born in Ancona, a talented former Lazio midfielder with whom, between 1975 and 1979, he collected 75 appearances between Serie A and B (plus two goals) and 10 in the Coppa Italia and raised a Primavera Scudetto to the sky. He also played 12 games with the Italian National Under-21 team and 6 with the Military Selection, winning a silver medal in the International Championship of the category. Besides the biancoceleste team, he has worn the jerseys of Napoli, Pistoiese, Modena, Atalanta, Avellino, Lecce, Genoa, Mantova and Lodigiani. Having hung up his boots, he embarked on a long and satisfying coaching career.
